Two goals by Brenner helped Brazil into the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 after a 3-0 victory over Honduras in Kochi on Wednesday evening. The result confirms they will face Germany in the last eight in Kolkata on Sunday.
It was the South American champions that gained control of the contest from the kick-off, with Brenner finishing off a flowing move when he knocked home Alan’s low cross in the Honduras six-yard box.
Despite that early goal, the central Americans gave Brazil something to think about when Luis Palma hammered a close-range shot off the near post on 33 minutes.
A Seleção then took further command of the match with a second goal just before the break, as Marcos Antonio took Paulinho’s fine through ball and slotted a first-time finish past Honduras goalkeeper Alex Rivera.
Brazil further extended their lead through a second goal from Brenner on 56 minutes. The Sao Paulo striker was in the right spot to knock home a loose ball for his third goal of the competition. They also claimed a third-straight clean sheet at India 2017 after Honduras striker Carlos Mejia saw his long-range effort hit the post in the second half.
