Carvajal practically ruled out of Atletico clash

There is more bad news for Zinedine Zidane as Dani Carvajal is unlikely to be fit enough to feature in the first Madrid derby at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
Despite having trained normally for several days, the Spaniard is likely to join Gareth Bale and Mateo Kovacic in being sidelined by injury for the crucial meeting between the city rivals.
Carvajal’s delicate condition, having suffered from pericarditis since its detection almost two months ago, has already seen him miss eight games.
The tie this weekend would be the ninth and Real Madrid’s doctors are determined not to rush the defender.
It provides another problem for Zidane, who will likely be without one of his undoubted regulars in the team on the right flank.
The coach therefore faces sending out a second string defence with Kiko Casilla set to deputise for Keylor Navas once again and either Achraf Hakimi or Nacho Fernandez replacing Carvajal.
Until his injury, the right-back was the only Madrid player to complete every minute of the first 11 games this season and, if he does miss the derby with Atletico, he will have sat out the subsequent nine.
