Navas a major doubt for Madrid derby

The upcoming derby with Atletico Madrid is increasingly likely to come too soon for Keylor Navas as the goalkeeper struggles to recover from a hamstring injury.

With just days to go until Real Madrid travel to Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, the Costa Rican wasn’t able to train with his teammates on Monday and worked alone.

Given that Navas has not played since October 17 and that this fitness issue cropped up due to a rushed return from a previous injury, he is a major doubt to face Diego Simeone’s Atleti.

Originally returning from the previous international break with a niggling issue, the shot-stopper nonetheless faced Spurs in the Champions League before suffering from further aggravation and missing the subsequent five Real games.

That tally is set to become six on the weekend and could well become seven if he sits out the clash with APOEL when European action returns days later.

Elsewhere at Valdebebas on Monday, Cristiano Ronaldo completed a workout inside the gym while Isco was given the day off having left the Spain squad before their match with Russia on Tuesday night.
