“With sincere appreciation, I am announcing my retirement from Major League Baseball, concluding a remarkable 13-season Major League Baseball journey,” Kluber said in a statement Friday obtained by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
“I am deeply grateful for the support of numerous individuals and entities that profoundly influenced my path.”
The 37-year-old said he’s exploring opportunities to continue contributing to baseball in a different capacity.
Kluber was one of baseball’s most dominant pitchers between 2014-18 while playing for the Cleveland Guardians. He won two American League Cy Young Awards and placed third in voting on two other occasions during that stretch, which also included three All-Star Game appearances and an ERA title.
The typically durable right-hander only pitched 35 2/3 frames for the Guardians in 2019 due to injury and was traded to the Texas Rangers before the 2020 campaign. He pitched one inning for the Rangers before a shoulder injury ended his season.
Kluber caught on with the New York Yankees in 2021, where he re-established his value with a 3.83 ERA and threw his first career no-hitter.
The gifted pitcher spent the past two seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays (2022) and Boston Red Sox (2023).
