Sampaoli confirms 23-man Chile squad for Copa América 2015

Jorge Sampaoli has revealed his Chile team for Copa América 2015, removing three names from his previous list of 26 players.

José Pedro Fuenzalida (Boca Juniors), Rodrigo Millar (Atlas), Mark González (Universidad Católica) and Junior Fernandes (Dinamo Zagreb) were the unlucky quartet to be omitted from the Roja coach’s first update after he named an initial 30-man party.

Now the Argentine has culled Juan Cornejo (Audax Italiano), Marco Medel (Santiago Wanderers) and Fernando Meneses (Veracruz) from the group, thus finalising his 23-strong roster. La Roja will be hoping that Claudio Bravo can maintain the impressive club form with Barcelona that saw him win the Zamora Trophy for the most clean sheets in the 2014-15 Liga season.

At the other end of the pitch, Juventus star Arturo Vidal will provide dynamism in midfield as Alexis Sánchez leads Chile’s attempt to win a first ever Copa América title in front of their own fans.

A friendly with El Salvador in Viña del Mar on June 5 is their only warm-up match before they get the tournament under way against Ecuador in Santiago on June 11.
