Atletico set Diego Costa’s release clause at 200 million

At long last Diego Costa has finalised his return to Atletico Madrid, on an initial season-long loan with the Rojiblancos having an obligation to buy the striker outright at the end of the season.

Once the loan deal expires and he becomes a permanent Atleti player, a release clause of 200 million euros will be set on his head, which is the highest in the club’s history.

Atletico have changed their structure for setting release clauses and are looking to raise the fees in any newly agreed deals. With Jan Oblak, Antoine Griezmann and Yannick Carrasco’s clauses all at 100 million euros, the club are keen to increase some, particularly Oblak’s.

Costa’s return has been long-awaited, and all parties will be happy a deal was finally reached with Atleti to pay 5 million for the initial loan and then an additional 50m plus 10m in variables.
