The 2017/18 season has not been going to plan for Borussia Dortmund, especially not in the Champions League, where the 2013 finalists already know they are knocked out.
With just two points to their name so far, they’ll be fighting for Europa League berth and nothing else.
In the Bundesliga, where they have fallen 10 points behind Bayern Munich, things aren’t going all that well either.
It must, however, be noted that Dortmund have suffered a plague of injuries as they prepare for this midweek clash against Real Madrid, with an injury list including star players such as Marco Reus and Mario Gotze.
Also out are Maximilian Philipp, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Lukasz Piszczek, Erik Durm, Sebastian Rode, Gonzalo Castro and Alexander Isak, the latter being the 18-year-old rising star who was close to signing for Real Madrid earlier in the year.
To make matters even worse, Jeremy Toljan is out of this game through suspension.
