1,700 security personnel will oversee safety of El Clasico

Up to 1,700 members of various security forces will attempt to ensure that El Clasico passes off without incident on Saturday.

Real Madrid take on Barcelona at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in a fixture that is always tense, albeit this is one which has not been declared high risk.

Sources from the Government Delegation have explained to EFE that the Anti-Violence Commission have not given it the status of a high risk fixture mostly due to the fact that no visiting fans are expected to attend.

However, the current situation of a No. 4 Anti-Terror Alert combined with the security measures taken around Christmas, has led to the authorities taking no chances and deploying 1,700 troops from both national and municipal police to oversee the fixture as well as security guards and other emergency services.
