Nolito and Navas get Montella off to winning start

Vincenzo Montella picked a strong side for his first game as Sevilla coach on Wednesday night and was rewarded with a 2-0 first leg win away to Cadiz in the Copa del Rey.

Wantaway midfielder Steven N’Zonzi played the full 90 minutes as Los Nervionenses overcame their neighbours, Nolito firing in an early opener at the near-post.

After 22 minutes it was two as Simon Kjaer’s lofted ball over the top was fumbled by a Cadiz defender to allow Jesus Navas a run on goal, which he capped with a calm finish.

The sizeable away following watched on as Sevilla stepped back a fair degree in the second period, surviving a late penalty when Salvi Sanchez’s effort was tipped onto the post by Sergio Rico to ensure a comfortable lead going into the return leg on January 11.
