Following Ross Barkley’s move from Everton to Chelsea, the city of Liverpool’s mayor has called upon both the police and FA to investigate the deal.
After a 40 million euro move fell through in August, the Blues snapped him up on a massively cut price deal of 18m euros.
Joe Anderson, who is a lifelong Everton fan in addition to being mayor of the city, took to Twitter to voice his indignation about the move as well as writing angry letters to the footballing authorities.
“I’ll be writing to the Premier League and FA calling for an investigation into the circumstances around the transfer of Ross Barkley,” he said.
“Agent pulls transfer of 35m pounds on deadline day, doesn’t play again and transfers four months later for 20m pounds [sic].
“It could be seen as a deliberate attempt to drive down a player’s transfer market value so as to benefit the player, his agent and the buying club.”
Anderson also confirmed that he had made contact with ‘the appropriate police authorities’ in order for them to make a determination on whether or not a fraud had taken place.
