UFC play-by-play commentator Jon Anik claims he has no inside knowledge on UFC 300 but believes Dricus Du Plessis’ first middleweight title defense against former champion Israel Adesanya will serve as the landmark main event on April 13.
“I’d imagine we will get that answer before Feb. 17, which is the night on which UFC 298 falls,” Anik said on “The Schmozone” podcast earlier this week when asked about the UFC 300 headliner. “I guess my non-informed speculation right now says it’s gonna be Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis for the middleweight championship as the main event.
“But I don’t know. We could get a curveball, we could get a non-undisputed title fight.”
With UFC 300 just over two months away, there has been a lot of speculation about what fight could headline the tentpole card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
However, Conor McGregor’s comeback bout is one option Anik doesn’t see materializing.
“I don’t think it’ll be anything involving Conor McGregor because all of a sudden, you look at the calendar, and it’s cannonball coming,” Anik said. “But it’s fascinating the way it’s played out, and if the promotion was desiring to build drama by leaving us hanging like this, mission accomplished.”
