Benzema’s golden years

Karim Benzema is in the best form of his Real Madrid career. These are his golden years and he’s achieving the goals he set himself. With 18 league goals this season, he’s just three away from his best total since he arrived in the Spanish capital seven seasons ago.

At 28 years of age, Karim maintains that this is just the start: he’s more mature, more experienced, mentally stronger and in good physical condition. All of this, along with the confidence that the club has shown in him, and also that of his manager who he gets on really well with, the support of his family, as well as a settled life in Madrid where he is happy, have resulted in the best Benzema we’ve seen in his time at the Bernabéu.

“I’ve always heard that a footballer enters his best form when he’s 27 years old. I hope it works like that for me too”. That phrase from Benzema has come true. Last season under Ancelotti, the player took a step forward. “He is the best forward, he makes others around him better and we need him to play with Bale and Cristiano, because he’s different”, said the Italian coach.

Giving his best at the Bernabéu is the only thing on Karim’s mind. He renewed his contract until 2019, ending that contract when he’s 31, and he is sure that he’ll be able to keep up this level.

This season he has taken special precautions. He has followed a strengthening plan away from the group, but that was interrupted by the court proceedings. Implicated in the Valbuena case, he has shown a mental strength that has surprised everyone in the changing room. It’s not brought him down; the opposite, it’s brought out the best in him.
