Players to watch 👀
Alexandre Sarr – Forward/Center (Perth Wildcats 🇦🇺)
A prospect semi-shrouded in mystery, the Atlanta Hawks are presumed to selectSarr with the first pick – giving three-time All-Star Trae Young another frontcourt force.
Sarr flashed premium defensive versatility in his lone season with Australia’s Perth Wildcats. While the 19-year-old will need to develop his offensive game in the Association, he should make a defensive impact for a Hawks squad that finished 27th in defensive rating last season.
Zaccharie Risacher – Forward (JL Bourg 🇫🇷)
Risacher projects to be a prototypical 3-and-D forward in the NBA, a valuable role in today’s league for a 6-foot-9 forward. The Frenchman excelled in the EuroCup, connecting on 56.1% of his 3.4 attempts over a 12-game stretch. He also won the EuroCup’s Rising Star title and was named the Best Young Player in LNB Pro A – France’s top league.
The 19-year-old has been a major riser during the draft process, potentially even challenging his countryman Sarr to be drafted with the first pick.
Donovan Clingan – Center (Connecticut)
A two-time national champion with Connecticut, Clingan naturally improved as he ascended into the starting center role for the Huskies despite being hampered by foot injuries to begin the 2023-24 season.
The 20-year-old dominates the paint on both ends of the court, showcasing an innate ability to block and alter shots. Offensively, Clingan’s height and wingspan will make him a premier lob threat the moment he enters the NBA.
Reed Sheppard – Guard (Kentucky)
The best shooter available, Sheppard knocked down a ridiculous 52.1% of his attempts from deep in his lone season at Kentucky. The 20-year-old can create his own shot off the dribble and convert catch-and-shoot opportunities, and he displayed good combo guard senses, pushing the ball in transition and dropping crosscourt dimes.
Sheppard, who is 6-foot-3, could struggle going up against larger NBA players and might be hunted for height-related mismatches. However, teams always look to add more shooting, so Sheppard seems to be a lock to go off the board early.
Zach Edey – Center (Purdue)
Edey dominated the college game, winning the Wooden Award for the NCAA’s most outstanding men’s player in back-to-back seasons. He was Divison I’s top scorer (25.2) and third-best rebounder (12.2) while also adding 2.2 blocks per contest, showing off his impressive two-way play.
While his lack of burst might hinder him, his prowess in the paint as a scorer and defender makes him a valuable prospect to teams looking to improve their play on either end of the floor.
Bronny James – Guard (USC)
For better or worse, where James is picked will be the dominant story to emerge from the draft – after all, it’s been the leading topic entering the event. His range seems to be early in the second round, but LeBron James’ son going in the first round wouldn’t be a shock.
The 19-year-old was cleared to play before the draft following a heart issue and tested well at the draft combine. However, his lack of playing time in his lone season at USC raises a big question mark, making it difficult to speculate how productive a player he’ll be in the NBA.
