Copa del Rey Santiago Bernabéu ruled out: Calderón well-placed to host cup final

Atlético Madrid’s elimination from the Spanish Cup has left the Vicente Calderón as the perfect place to host the final. With the semi-final draw still to be made and no Madrid teams left in the competition, the Atleti stadium is now seen as the perfect venue for this season’s final.

Madrid’s geographical location and impressive infrastructure make it the nation’s most accessible city. The Santiago Bernabéu has already been ruled out. Aside from the breakdown in Real Madrid’s relationship with the Spanish Football Federation, the club already said last year that it did not want to host the cup final for now. The two institutions fell out during negotiations over which stadium would host last season’s cup final and that relationship has continued to sour, the polar opposite to Los Blancos’s cross-city rivals.

A decision will be made as to which stadium will host the final as soon as the two finalists are known, but there appears to be no reason why either team would not accept the Vicente Calderón hosting the big game.
