Curry: Warriors need to regain ‘home-court fear’ after latest collapse

After another blown lead at home, Stephen Curry believes that Chase Center isn’t the fortress it once was.

“We’re very average,” Curry told reporters, including ESPN’s Kendra Andrews, after the Golden State Warriors coughed up a 15-point lead in a 130-125 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. “Very average doesn’t get it done in this league. We need to make a run. Hopefully, we bounce back tomorrow and after the All-Star break hit a stride where we win every game (at home) and steal a few on the road.

“We’ve been very average so far, so we have to regain that home-court fear that we have grown accustomed to in the past.”

Golden State has been defeated six times this season when up by 15 points or more, a number only equalled by the San Antonio Spurs.

In November, the Warriors squandered an 18-point advantage in a 130-123 overtime loss at home to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Two months later, the Denver Nuggets came into Chase Center and dealt them an equally stunning defeat, ending the contest on a 25-4 scoring run to erase an 18-point fourth-quarter deficit.

Wednesday’s defeat dropped the Warriors to 14-14 at home. They rank 20th in defensive efficiency at Chase Center compared to 11th on the road.

Golden State posted a dominating 33-8 record at home last season.
