Dani Alves called into Brazil squad for Copa América as Danilo ruled out

Dani Alves  has been handed a last-minute call-up to the  Brazilsquad for the 2015 Copa América in Chile.

The Barcelona defender, who signed a new contract this week, was drafted in for the South American showpiece after Real Madrid’s Danilo was ruled out of the competition in Chile through injury.

And head coach Dunga believes his versatility will be a huge boost for his squad which has suffered a number of injuries over the last two weeks.

“He has worked with me at another Copa América (2007). He is an experienced player, he won the Champions League, has great personality and is versatile,” Dunga said.

“Another one of his positive attributes is his skill with set pieces. We had some opportunities to make substitutions against Honduras and will have more at Copa América. To have a specialist player in his role is very important.”

Monaco right-back Fabinho made his full debut for Brazil in their 1-0 friendly victory over Honduras on Wednesday, but was later replaced by Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos – a central defender who has played at right-back for his club this season.

Dani Alves was handed his international debut by Dunga in 2006 and also switched flanks to play at left-back at times during the former midfielder’s first spell in charge of Brazil.

“We have to count on the unexpected,” Dunga continued.

“With Dani Alves we will have a more experienced player for right-back.”
