In knocking out Athletic, the Catalans have made it into the tournament’s final four for the 55th time in Club history.
And the journey continues — to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, that is.
With a 3-1 win versus Athletic Club on Wednesday night, FC Barcelona now have a ticket to the final four of the competition for the sixth consecutive year and the 55th time overall, and move one step from a second straight appearance in the Final after winning the title last year.
The table below shows Barça’s results in the last nine editions of the Cup, only one of which saw them out before the quarter-finals. Pep Guardiola(2011 and 2012) and now Luis Enrique (2015 and 2016) have reached the semi-finals twice each. Tito Vilanova (2013) and Gerardo Martino (2014) did it once.
In knocking out Ahtletic, Barça top their previous best streak of five straight semi-finals appearance from 1951–1955, and are now just one away from tying the all-time mark of seven straight from 1924–1930.
