Despite beating Rafael Nadal 6-4, 6-3Â in the Shanghai Masters on Sunday, Roger Federer acknowledged how it is unlikely that he will overturn his deficit against the Spaniard in head-to-head meetings.
Nadal currently leads in face-to-face battles with the Swiss by 23 to 15, and Federer has accepted defeat on that count.
“I’m not going to catch him, I know I won’t,” he said after victory in China.
“My calendar until the end of the year will depend on how I am feeling, but it’s not about fighting to be world No. 1.
“I will decide what to do when I get back to Switzerland.”
