At the beginning of the presentation of Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract renewal, president Florentino Perez paid homage to the player whilst also noting there would be a before and after.
The Portuguese has signed a deal that will keep him at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu until 2021 when he will be 36, and Perez is in no doubt as to Ronaldo’s legacy.

“In 114 years we have you forging a sign of our identity recognised around the world,” Perez said.
“It is linked to our giants of the game like Di Stefano or Gento who would be proud to have the best heir of this dynasty.
“Ronaldo is the great successor of them.”

“A symbol of the best club in football history.
“In Madrid you have conquered everything, you are a legend and the top scorer in the history of the club.
“A single player who is unforgettable, and I think it right that after your successes, very soon you will have your fourth Ballon d’Or.”
