Iker Casillas is already part of Real Madrid history. In the past few hours, talks between the parties concerned in the Casillas transfer deal have made a big step forward – the clincher coming courtesy of Portuguese tax rates, which are lower than in Spain.
Of the €10 million gross Porto is offering, five per season, Casillas is set to receive around €7 million (€3.5 million a year), taxed at a rate of 20%. Thus, Real Madrid would only have to shell out a net sum of €5.5 million, less than the international would receive for a year according to the terms of his contract with Real.
It is a win-win situation for everyone. Iker will play at the highest level; Real have a free hand to go for De Gea; and Porto have got themselves a superstar with an outstanding career record.
Following his holidays in Greece and Southeast Asia, Casillas was back in Madrid on Wednesday, returning to face the hardest moment of his career: saying goodbye to ‘Los Blancos’.
