The 65-year-old believes his side still have room for improvement ahead of this weekend’s Group C encounter, but is confident they are ready
José Pékerman has admitted Colombia still have work to do ahead of their Copa América opener against Venezuela on Sunday.
The 2014 World Cup quarter-finalists are hoping to win their second-ever South American title this summer, but Pékerman feels they are not at their best just yet.
“We know that Colombia still have work to do. We have to analyse our situation and be honest with ourselves. There are always things to change,” Pékerman said at a press conference.
“We know that our opponents are very strong. I will finalise the team on Sunday. Every player knows his role and will be ready if called upon.
“The team has proven to be flexible and has always given its utmost.”
The Colombia boss then went on to stress that he is confident his forwards will be ready to deliver at the tournament in Chile.
“I never doubt the abilities of the players I have called upon.
“Our attackers have shown at their clubs what they can do. The coach can have a different opinion than the fans.”
Colombia will also have to deal with Brazil and Peru in Group C.
