Fenerbahce travel to Manchester looking to defend their first position of the group, while United hunt their first victory of the 2016/17 campaign.
Manchester United’s success has started to dwindle . They began the season in a brilliant way with three wins in a row, but have lost to Manchester City, Feyenoord, and Watford and drawn against Stoke, leaving them 7th in the Premier League and 3rd in their Europa League group.
Their bad results started as Zlatan Ibrahimovic stopped performing. Swedish superstar failed to score in the four league games in a row which is his worst run in league competition since January 2015.
On the other side, Fenerbahce have problems of their own. The Yellow Canaries have just two victories in the first seven rounds of the Super Lig and are currently sitting in the ninth place. The situation for them is slightly better in the Europa League where they sit at the top of the group A with a draw against Zorya and victory over Feyenoord.
This game will be special for Robin Van Persie. The Dutchman made 105 appearances for United between 2012 and 2015, scoring 58 times.
“It will be a special occasion and a special game for me,” Van Persie told MUTV. “I am now playing for Fenerbahce and I want to do well for my team but of course it will be special to play ‘at home’ in a great stadium with great fans against a great team.”
