Bordeaux visit Anfield on Thursday and the home side can secure their place in the last 32 of Europa League with a victory.
Liverpool have earned just one win in their four Group B matches, but a victory will be enough this week as they are three points above their upcoming opponents.
Since Jurgen Klopp arrival, Liverpool has achieved four wins, three draws and one defeat, and it is the team’s away performances that have caught the eye. Liverpool’s results on the road include wins over Chelsea and City, but it is the results at Anfield that have not been setting the world alight because the Reds have claimed one victory in four matches.
Liverpool have scored eight goals in their last three league matches, but in Europe they have hit the back of the net just four times in four games. A goalless draw would also be enough to send Liverpool into the next round if group leaders Sion win at Rubin Kazan.
It has not been the ideal Europa League campaign for Bordeaux since reaching the group stages as they are still searching for a win following three draws and a defeat. They have won just three of their last 14 matches in all competitions.
Bordeaux advanced to the round of 32 in their first two UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League group stage campaigns, but missed the cut in their most recent appearance, in 2013/14.
Head to head
Liverpool and Bordeaux have faced one another competitively three times in the past and the Reds are still unbeaten.
The reverse fixture ended in a 1-1 draw as Jussie cancelled out Adam Lallana’s opener.
In the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League group stage Bordeaux met then European Champions Liverpool, and the Rafa Benitez’s Reds won 1-0 in Bordeaux and 3-0 at Anfield.
