Morata only has a knock

Spain’s national team doctors have confirmed that the injury suffered by Alvaro Morata in La Roja’s 2-0 friendly win over Belgium in Brussels is nothing more serious than a knock.

The news will come as a massive relief to Real Madrid fans, especially given the current injury issues of their other forwards Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

Diego Costa was substituted on for Morata in the first half of the match after the 23-year-old suffered a heavy blow to his thigh, but an MRI scan undergone at the Sanitas La Moraleja clinic has shown that there is no serious injury.

As such, the player could still feature in next week’s World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein, while he should also be available for his club’s next LaLiga match – at home to Osasuna on September 10.

The Liechtenstein game will be held in Leon and will kick off at 20:45 local time on Monday evening.
