With 29 goals in 29 games, the Uruguayan is having a wonderful season – we pick out nine key stats from this truly remarkable forward.
The Messi-Suárez-Neymar Jr trident was in typically brilliant form on Sunday night, with Luis Suárez especially impressive with three goals and an assist. He wears number nine, so here are nine nuggets of information to honour the Uruguayan’s stunning achievements so far.
Goal a game: Luis Suárez has scored 29 goals in 29 appearances for the team this term. He’s scored in 18 different games – so on many occasions that’s meant two or even three goals in the same match.
Better than last season: In his first season at Barça, Suárez scored 25 times in 43 games (0.58 a match). He’s already topped that record this time round, and overall has been on target 54 times for the club.
Fourth hat-trick: The Uruguayan took the match ball home once again on Sunday, as he also did againstGuangzhou in the Club World Cup and Eibar in the league, and last season against Cordoba (0-8)..
Pichichi: The eighteen goals make him the top scorer in La Liga, with two goals more than his team-mateNeymar Jr and Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid.
Assists as well: Suárez set up Neymar to score against Athletic, his tenth assist of the campaign. It was also he who was brought down by visiting keeper Iraizoz in the third minute, leading to a red card and penalty.
2,787 minutes: Suárez has been used for more time than any other Barcelona player this term, followed byRakitic on 2,400. Luis Enrique has only left him on the bench for the games with Levante, Villanovense(second leg) and Bayer Leverkusen (final group game), while he was not included in the squad that made the trip to Extremadura in the Copa del Rey.
Always a starter: Suárez has played all 90 minutes of his 29 games this season. He’s never come on as a sub and has not been replaced once.
MVP: He ended the Club World Cup in Japan by being named the player of the tournament, and also the leading goalscorer with five goals in two games. He thus equals Messi and Delgado has the highest all-time scorer in the competition, and ended 2015 with 46 goals in the calendar year.
