Today, on the last day of the year, we can reveal our digital audience clicked more thanone billion times on FIFA.com, the official FIFA app, and on FIFA’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, in 2015. A mutual love of football, by our Editors, and from our fans, was the unifying theme that saw 344 million people tap into our channels in 2015.

Audience interaction with FIFA’s web and social hub, the Global Stadium reached fever pitch at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Canada in June and July, when 88 million fans clicked 161 million times on our content. That’s an attendance 1,222 times more than the capacity of the International Yokohama Stadium, where the Club World Cup final was played in December!

We know our audience are incredibly social too, especially when it comes to women’s football. The #FIFAWWC hashtag was mentioned a staggering 1.1 million times.

Away from the pitch, the most decorated African footballer of all time, Samuel Eto’o supported a FIFA medical project in October, visiting Sierra Leone and Ghana to experience first-hand the progress of FIFA’s public health programs. An impromptu selfie taken at a school in Freetown, reached 5 million people on FIFA platforms. Earlier in the year, FIFA’s first Women’s Football and Leadership conference reached 15million. More highlights can be found here.

The glamour of football meanwhile is perfectly framed at FIFA’s Ballon d’Or gala, where global football stars past and present, meet to celebrate the year’s achievements.

Last January, an emotional Cristiano Ronaldo unleashing a reverberating roar at winning the FIFA Ballon D’Or, saw the event climax with 750,000 mentions of the hashtag #BallonDOr by the end of the celebrations.

A comic video clip of PSG superstar Angel Di Maria behind-the-scenes went viral in February, inspiring more than 1 million interactions on FIFA’s Ballon d’Or Facebook page.

The 2016 event kicks off in Zurich in 11 days’ time and is sure to be a glittering occasion in the digital world too. Already, 22 million people are aware of the Puskas Award nominee announcements made in November. If you haven’t voted, you still can, here!

This year we’re launching a unique Social Media activation for the ceremony and it’s just one of the things we plan on doing to improve our digital content for an ever-growing, truly global FIFA digital audience.

Looking further into 2016, FIFA will endeavour to listen even more attentively to football fans from all over the world, and continue to discover how we can make FIFA.com and our social media platforms even more enjoyable and more interactive, so we can continue to inspire a global football conversation.

We wish you all, wherever you are in the world, whenever you celebrate, a very happy 2016.
