Iker Casillas’s time at Real Madrid is drawing ever nearer to a close. The ‘Los Blancos’ captain is close to becoming a new Porto player for this season. The talks between the two parties have accelerated over the last few hours, although Real Madrid and the player are yet to reach an agreement regarding the remaining two years on his contract that tie them together. This aspect is key.
Porto let Real Madrid know of their interest and in doing so informed them that they would offer the player a two year contract with a further season optional (if he played more than 30 matches in his second season), at the rate of €5 million for each of them.
The Portuguese club’s position is not to pay anything to sign him. In other words, that Real Madrid let him leave for free, whilst Porto make an effort to pay a high salary to the player, in line with what he is used to in Madrid.
Real Madrid have made the decision that they will let him go for free; in view of his brilliant past career and of having given his whole life for the cause of the club. At the club’s offices at the Bernabéu they have been waiting for a team to show their interest in Iker officially and that moment has finally come.
