A meeting between the president of CONMEBOL, Alejandro Dominguez, president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino and the President of the Republic of Paraguay, Horacio Cartes took place in a spirit of cordiality. The meeting was held in the Mburivichá Roga, the presidential residence in Paraguay.
The president of CONMEBOL and the FIFA president arrived at the Mburuvichá Roga (in the Guarani language, “the chief’s house”) and there were received by the president of Paraguay. Also part of the welcoming party was the CONMEBOL representative to FIFA and vice president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, Mr. Fernando José Macieira Sarney.
From the outset the three presidents abandoned all protocol and began talking about football. It is worth remembering that the president of Paraguay was for many years president of Club Libertad and director of the Department of Selections for the Paraguayan Football Association.
“It is a great pleasure and a great honor to receive them,” said President Horacio Cartes, officially starting the dialogue.
President Alejandro Dominguez said: “we are grateful to President Cartes for having us at his residence. You are president of the country that is home to CONMEBOL but you are also a man of football and we come as men of football with President Infantino to say hello and to tell of the projects we have going at CONMEBOL and FIFA. CONMEBOL has strongly supported Mr. Infantino because we always believed that he was the right person for the position in this difficult moment for football. We all have great confidence and also a strong commitment to work together in this new stage.”
President Cartes said: “I am happy for this new moment of football. With respect to CONMEBOL, I know President Dominguez and I know that the organization is in good hands. And President Infantino permit me to tell you that this is a moment of opportunity for many ventures. It is a good time to do things right and make football get better in every way. Football is something unique, unparalleled and I know this because I have been a director in the presidency of a club and in with the national team of my country and I know everything that makes up football. So Mr. Alexander as Mr. Infantino I wish you well.”
Finally President Infantino said: “I am very flattered, happy, happy for this reception of the president of CONMEBOL and the President of the Republic of Paraguay. It is a very emotional because it is my first visit to a confederation. As President Dominguez said there are many projects we have for football and we are confident that we can count on CONMEBOL to carry out these endeavors.”
After the meeting there was an exchange of gifts between the three presidents.
