Cristian RodrÃguez of Uruguay was selected as the MasterCard Man of the Match after scoring the only goal in his side’s 1-0 win over Jamaica.
The experienced winger was in the right place to slot a loose ball past Jamaica goalkeeper Dwayne Kerr in the 52nd minute at Estadio Regional Calvo y Bascuñán in Antofagasta.
RodrÃguez’s goal, steered into the bottom corner with his right foot, proved enough to give the reigning Copa América champions a slender victory in their opening match.
He was substituted not long after breaking the deadlock, making way for Giorgian Arrascaeta shortly after the hour mark.
Uruguay, who were without the suspended Luis Suárez, were grateful for the 29-year-old’s calm finish. They next face Argentina in Group B.
