The NBA announced the reserves for the 2024 All-Star Game on Thursday, led by a pair of players each from the surging Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New York Knicks, along with three first-time participants.
The league’s 30 head coaches selected seven reserves per conference, picking two guards, three frontcourt players, and two wild cards at either position.
The East’s selections are filled with young players. Mitchell is the only member to have played in more than three All-Star Games. A pair of electric guards in Brunson and Maxey and sophomore sensation Banchero make their debuts. Randle will likely require an injury replacement after reports that he’d miss multiple weeks with a shoulder injury.
On the flip side, the West’s grouping is filled with veteran players; rising star Edwards is the only member who won’t be playing in at least his fourth All-Star Game. Booker, Leonard, and Towns are all back on the squad after not making the contest last season.
The starters were revealed last week, with Los Angeles Lakers icon LeBron James and Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo named captains after leading their respective conferences in votes.
James, 39, earned his 20th All-Star selection, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most in NBA history.
The 2024 NBA All-Star Game will be held on Feb. 18 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. It marks the return of the traditional East versus West format and will re-introduce a conventional scoring model in place of the Elam Ending, which was used in each of the last four midseason exhibitions.
