Di María: “I never wanted to leave”

Di Maria is counting the hours to his Santiago Bernabéu return. He will be the star of the show when PSG travel to Madrid next Tuesday.

QUESTION. How is life at PSG? Have you settled in?
ANSWER.Yes, the truth is that I’m gradually adapting, everyone has been really welcoming since day one and a great help to me and my family.

What do you think you still need to do to fully adapt to PSG?
I have to keep working on finding my feet, it’s not easy to come into a club and get to know the players and the system of play from day one, but it’s coming, bit by bit.

Can PSG win the Champions League?
Yes, we have the players to do it and it’s something the club needs. To win it you need that little bit of luck, I said it in Madrid and time proved me right with that goal by Sergio, that lucky strike.

Is the pressure here like it was in Madrid?
A little less, but you feel the pressure of the desire to win the Champions League, and that starts with the president.

What are we going to see from PSG at the Bernabéu?
A brave team that will go out to win the game from the off.

Do you stand by what you said in your Real farewell letter that was published in MARCA?
It wasn’t about hard feelings, I wrote it to clarify all the things being said about me that were complete lies. If I went to the Bernabéu today and they booed me it would be for everything that was said about me then. It was always my intention to stay, never to go, I don’t know much about what went on there behind closed doors, that’s stuff the agents deal with. I left Madrid the way I left but what I took with me was the fantastic moment of that final applause at the Bernabéu, and I feel okay with that.
